Manchester United Football Club is an English professional football club, based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, that plays in the Premier League. Founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878, the club changed its name to Manchester United in 1902 and moved to Old Trafford in 1910. The first ever game at the newly built stadium saw Manchester United take on the old enemy Liverpool on 19 February 1910, goals from Homer, Turnbull and Wall couldn't stop United crashing to a 4-3 defeat .

The 1958 Munich air disaster claimed the lives of eight players. In 1968, under the management of Matt Busby, Manchester United was the first English football club to win the European Cup. The current manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has won 37 major honours since he took over in November 1986

View towards the East Stand I remember as the scoreboard end in the 70's . Used to stand in the corner terrace section .

I used to watch United in the late 70's when they were a mid-table team . Makes me laugh when i get told i'm not a real Man United fan etc . What i did observe tonight was a warm friendly environment with plenty of families in the North stand , now The Sir Alex Ferguson Stand . The stewards were quite strict but fair and helpful . I did notice coffee and tea were £2 but the entrance fee was very attractive at £3 - free for non season ticket holders and the club provided a good quality team sheet , free of charge , so all in all , a good gesture . One advantage of watching this fixture , I managed to park near the cricket ground for free , about 10-15 minutes walk , didn't want to risk the main stadium car parks as i've seen prices of £10 . On normal match days street parking is restricted .

Chelsea warming up

Teams

Chelsea gained the upper hand in the first half and deserved their half-time lead of 1-0
United were more of a potent force in the second half creating more chances eventually finding an equaliser . Chelsea still looked dangerous on the break and clinched this first leg match with a thundering low drive from over 20 yards , winning 2 goals to 1 .
