In 1972 Roly Howard was appointed first team manager and completed 1,975 competitive games over a 33 year period before retiring at the end of the 2004/05 season. He was recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as the longest serving manager in world football as Marine enjoyed its most successful period winning some 30 trophies.
Marine's best performance in the F.A. Cup was reaching the 3rd Round in 1992/3 when they lost 3-1 to Crewe Alexandra. Marine have also achieved ten first and two second round appearances in the FA Cup and have beaten two Football League Clubs (Barnsley and Halifax Town) in the competition. Marine have twice reached the semi-finals of the F.A. Trophy in 1983/84 and 1991/92 and have been winners of 13 senior county cups.
Tonights teams

BPA started well as the away side with a swirling wind behind them . At least the rain abaited for most of the first half . Strong tackles were flying in and the referee had a difficult time keeping the game under control . Marine were hit the most and had to make three substitutions before the break . Both side struggled to create chances but BPA were doing most of the pressing . Eventually their superior possession turned into a goal when Drury netted after 34 minutes . Marine 's woe continued when Davies was dismissed for a clumsy tackle after 41 minutes . The crowd sensed nothing was going their teams way and the officials came in for some 'admonishing scouse humour .' Not very funny at half time though , BPA leading 1-0 and several of the home team on crutches . Time to peruse the club store. The ten men Crosby outfit were up against it in the second half but with a vociferous crowd behind them , made a fight of it . BPA 's sorties into the Marine half became more frequent as Marine understandably tired . After 78 minutes , Savory made the game safe and BPA go top of the League . The officials were barracked off the pitch by the incensed home support . Attendance 281
An excellent freindly football venue and clubshop . The staff waited while i made purchases and were very knowledgeable . The club appreciate and would like any unwanted football programmes especially Marine FC to help towards ground improvements .
