Match Referee 8/10 Generally did well , quick on the mark , kept players in check , lots of offside calls but at this level each club provides one assistant each and theres a temptation to be a little biased so the ref has to make some tough calls .
Springfields and English Electric are probably more synomonous with Dick Kerr Ladies football team (Preston North End) who had a phenomenal record from 1917 , at one stage went more than 200 games unbeaten and played in front of more than 53,000 spectators at Goodison Park Everton . The ground is situated near the River Ribble and Preston train station hence the railway viaduct bridge in the background . Can be difficult to access at the moment as there are roadworks in the area so i approached from Winckley Square , past the railway station and left into South Meadow Street . Theres a modern changing room building adjacent to the smart club lounge . One goal side of the ground is next to the car park so spectators were watching from the comfort of their motor vehicles or take advantage of one of several park style garden seats . The other goal was surrounded by large hedges and overlooked by the overhead railway bridge , houses adorned one length of the pitch with dugouts and circular fence poles near the touchline . The opposite side was sectioned off with thin rope . I could see myself falling over this at some point or slipping while constantly retrieving the ball ! BAC are unbeaten in the league and started brightly against Mill Hill in green and white . Mill Hill weather the early storm , looking useful for a team near the bottom of the league . Not many chances in the first half although BAC 's number 11 had a gilt edged chance from six yards but was unable to react fast enough , volleying over as the ball came to him rapidly , chest high, from a poor defensive header . A couple of more chances went begging : Mill Hill were dogged and their work rate was impressive . Half time 0-0 .
Both sides competed equally well and Mill Hill made it difficult for their opponents . Eventually pressure from BAC resulted in a fluke goal from a cross cum centre , looping over the stranded keeper into the net . Any thoughts of a Mill Hill collapse were quickly distinguished as stern defensive tackles and forrays forward continued . The referee , bit of a Rigsby lookalike , made several bookings and was on the mark when needed . There were a few hotly contested offside calls from BAC who couldn't find the illusive second goal . Mill Hill punted the ball forward and equalised with a neat finish after a flick on . BAC regained their lead after the re-start , Mill Hill probably thought they'd stole a point but eventually yielded to the last ten minutes onslaught from BAC who added a third and desreved their hard fought win. Credit to Mill hill though , they looked better than their second bottom position suggests . Final Score BAC/EE/Springfields 3-1 Mill Hill St Peters . Anyone for ice-cream ?Time for sandwhiches and a drink in the bar !!
